If you are creative and hate being stuck behind a desk? Then this is the job for you. This is a unique position allowing you to see a project from start to finish. As Port Signworks Sign Designer, Production Specialist & Installer a typical day will have you spending time in Adobe Illustrator, or on the production line printing, weeding, masking or applying prints to substrates for installation and finally out in the field installing bringing your designs to life.
Responsibilities:
Design & Production:
- Communicate with clients to initiate jobs and refine their designs for production.
- Create vector designs for wide-format printing and vinyl cutting using Adobe Illustrator or other design software.
- Operate and maintain wide-format vinyl printers/plotters, laminators.
- Prepare "cut files" and "weed" vinyl for application.
Installation & Field Work:
- Apply vinyl graphics to various substrates, including windows, walls, and vehicles.
- Perform site surveys (taking accurate measurements and photos) at our shop or at the client location.
- Install non-electrical signage using hand and power tools (drills, Levels, ladders).
Requirements:
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator is a must. You should understand layers, paths, and vector points.
- You must enjoy working with your hands and have basic experience with power tools.
- Detail Oriented: have the ability to accurately measure substrates, able to proof read your work and make corrections prior to production and notice a bubble in vinyl after application to substrate.
- Must have the ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs., and work outdoors in weather conditions typical of New England. (Exterior winter installations happen occasionally but are not the norm)
- You must have reliable transportation to and from work along with a valid driver’s license.
- Education: High School diploma and a degree or certificate in Graphic Design is a huge plus but not necessary. If you have the skills needed and can demonstrate a command of the abilities needed to perform the job, I am willing to consider you for the position.
